A Manager's Guide to Hockey Life
Managers make the hockey fun happen, often in the background, without the players even knowing it. Team Managers help ensure that coaches are able to best spend their time coaching and they are crucial to the success of a team's hockey season!
This page contains lots of information and lots of links to information. Team Managers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the documents and links found below to help guide them through their hockey season.
The mentorship committee encourages all EMHA teams to use the various forms located in the Appendices below, our goal is to have all EMHA teams using the same forms which will create consistency and help avoid confusion.
It's a lot so, when you're stuck, don't be shy to reach out to the Mentorship Team for help finding the answers to your questions.
Team Manager Requirements
Before being rostered to a team, all Team Managers must ensure their Hockey Canada Registry profile is up to date with the required screening and qualifications.
Team Managers are considered team officials and must have:
- A valid Vulnerable Sector Check, or VSC receipt where permitted, submitted through the HEO screening process
- Completion of the required HEO declaration
- Respect in Sport – Activity Leader / Speak Out, or the new Shift Forward General Program, as applicable
- Gender Identity and Expression Training
These requirements must be completed and reflected in the individual’s Hockey Canada Registry profile before they can be approved on a team roster. Managers should start this process early, as Vulnerable Sector Checks can take several weeks to be completed by local police services.
For current instructions and links, please visit HEO’s Vulnerable Sector Check, Shift Forward, and Gender Identity and Expression Training pages.
